Saugus Speedway, Santa Clarita, California December 29th, 2023 The Saugus Speedway in Santa Clarita, California—home to the Santa Clarita Swap Meet—is not long for this world. It hasn't hosted an auto race since 1995, and its been announced that even the twice-weekly swap meet that it hosts will apparently end on June 30th, 2024, breaking the 55-year tradition. The powers that be have designs on turning this Los Angeles County landmark in to some bland commercial or condo development. In a time when cities are increasingly turning their backs on what features make them unique, in favor of what makes the most money, this roll of 16mm was shot as a means to commit to film what the speedway looked like in January of 2024.
