#Bengals #NFLFreeAgency #bengalsnews "Early release of Episode 154" Welcome back to "Bengals on the Brain," presented by First Star Logistics! It's time to dive into the Bengals' moves from Day One of NFL Free Agency. Let's cut to the chase: The Bengals' Day One has been, shall we say, "aggressively underwhelming." It's not a disaster, but it hasn’t moved the needle. So, let’s review it all so you can decide. Now, the biggest news pre-free agency was the extension of tight end Mike Gesicki. This is significant because it's the first time since 2015 (Rey Maualuga) that the Bengals have extended one of their own players before the legal tampering period. For years, the Bengals weren't exactly known as free-agency powerhouses. If you're a newer fan, you might not even realize how inactive they were. So, extending Gesicki signals a possible shift. Gesicki's deal is for three years, $25.5 million, but with a $7.8 million cap hit this year. Some fans might have sticker shock at the $8 million-plus per year average. It’s suitable for Gesicki, who has quadrupled his previous salary! He fits the offense, fits the personality, and fits a team that wants to throw the ball. His usage from last year shows Gesicki lined up 91% of the time from the wide receiver position or the slot. Also returning are B.J. Hill, Joseph Ossai, Cody Ford, and running back Samaje Perine after being gone for a couple of seasons. The Bengals did add defensive tackle T.J. Slayton and linebacker and special teams ace Oren Burks. So, what's the verdict? It's still just Day One, but the Bengals need to make a bigger splash. They need to address the pass rush. By the time you’re reading/watching this, they may have signed another defensive end or safety! I don't know; maybe I’m naive, but I hope they value the guard position and address it in some way. Go get Teven Jenkins and make up for drafting Jackson Carman over him all those years ago.
