Read on for a description of The Livi Zig-Zag Tour and for links to downloadable .gpx files of the route ... A wee while ago I was asked if I could put together a traffic-free route around Livingston using the path network that a group of cycle riders new to cycling could use as a social ride that could be completed in around two hours. The challenge seemed a good opportunity to demonstrate how extensive and comprehensive Livingston’s shared-use path network is and the result is the Livi Zig-Zag Tour! Not only does the route show the diversity of architecture and development that has taken place over Livingston’s 60-year history as a New Town, it also shows the many open and wooded green spaces that have been retained and there are hints of the area’s past to be found along the way. Winding its way around the town in a wobbly, wavy loop, the route can be started at any point and has many opportunities to shorten or lengthen the ride via interconnecting paths. I started my recordings at Livingston North rail station and the videos show the route as it progresses through the districts of Eliburn, Ladywell, Craigshill, Howden, Almondvale, Dedridge, Murieston, Bankton Mains, Bellsquarry, Adambrae, Kirkton and back through Eliburn to Carmondean and my start point at the station. As with my core paths videos, I recorded this as an end-to-end video and have split it into four roughly equal parts. As with the core path videos, this has no backing music or commentary, just the hum and rumble of my bike tyres on the tarmac or gravel path surfaces - I had some feedback to say the sound made for a calm and relaxing background! Enjoy the ride! For anyone wanting to follow the route, downloadable gpx files can be found below (These show the start/finish point as Livingston Village where refreshments may be had at Livingston Inn or at Castaway Coffee): https://connect.garmin.com/modern/cou... https://explore.osmaps.com/en/route/8...
