Bill is playing with one of his toy train sets when Del the delivery bot delivers a special new toy from Tinker. It is a giant big yellow toy train. Bill builds the big tracks in Tinkerland and sets up his big yellow train. He loves to watch it go round and round. Then Bill sets up more tracks. But when Bill’s big yellow train breaks down, he calls in his helperbot friend Mech the Mechanic bot who loves to fix machines to help. Mech jumpstarts the train with his jumper cables and is off for an exciting ride. The two end their day on the grass watching the Big Yellow Train go round and round. Bill feels safe and calm when he watches his toy train go round and round. Sometimes the world around us can seem scary and unsettling. You may see people doing things or acting in ways that seem incorrect to you, or you may see things being done or built that you would have done or built a different way. That can cause your body to feel feelings of frustration or confusion. We may not be able to control the entire world around us, but sometimes it can be helpful for people who feel these things to go and make a world of their own. A world of your own can be as big or small as you desire. Building a world of your own can look like a drawn picture, scale model train set, flower garden, park, personalized room, or even a decorated porch or lawn for the holidays. Some people find it calming to build a world of their own through toys. By placing objects where they want, it reminds one that they have a sense of control over certain things in their life, and helps them feel at peace to see a world the way they desire it to be, down to the very last detail. Bill demonstrates the peace one can feel through world building as he builds his toy train. The goal of each episode is to demonstrate ways of thinking and acting that are rooted in a set of personal values that a person can have, as well as demonstrate healthy practices such as mindfulness and emotional intelligence. Each robot’s day is spent exploring different activities in life that fulfill that robot’s sense of values. While each robot has a different set of interests, it is shown how similar activities can fulfill different values. Furthermore, it is seen how one set of values can be fulfilled through multiple different activities, jobs, and lifestyles. By demonstrating this for children, it is the hope that they will grow up with an optimistic mindset for the vast possibilities of the future. Exciting episodes of Tinker and Friends are designed to help excite the child watching, and to impart the idea that “the world around a person is full of fun and beauty each day”. The main character Tinker also helps show the viewer that there is, in fact, a time to be excited and energetic, as well as a time to be calm and tranquil. Furthermore, a healthy, well rounded, human being can balance both excitement and tranquility in their life if they so choose.
