Korea and Germany weren’t the only nations divided; there was also Vietnam. While Germany and Vietnam are united under opposite regimes, the remnants of their decades long division still remain depending where you visit there. Out of all the subjects discussed in the Vietnam War, the Division of North and South is least talked about, thrown away and replaced with the narrative of a resistance war against imperialism. Imagine if the Division of North and South Korea was viewed from the same scope, you wouldn't get the full narrative. Films such as the South Korean produced Joint Security Area (JSA) is the perfect film to highlight how brutal and close a politically divided Asian country is. If you compare the many aspects of the division the film highlights on Korea's history of Division, you can likewise see the same of the Division of Vietnam to Vietnamese history. When the story wasn't a Cold War micro battle, it was a story of Brother against Brother, deep ancestral beef, and problematic love. JSA is a perfect visualization of what a modern day Cold War demarcation line would be, aging throughout the 1950s to 2000s. One can see the similarities between the Asian DMZs, with loudspeakers projecting propaganda on both sides, the soldiers on both constantly contesting each other to determine who the "real" side of their respective country is, the bridges dividing them to the "neutral" nations involved with respecting each side of the demarcation line.
