The history of Christianity after the Reformation was far more complex than a simple split between Catholics and Protestants. Beneath the surface of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, a series of radical movements emerged that challenged tradition, authority, and the union between church and state. This documentary explores the historical roots of three influential movements: Baptists, Quakers, and Unitarians. Although these groups developed very different beliefs, they were shaped by deeper impulses that can be traced back to the Radical Reformation and the controversial world of the Anabaptists. During the sixteenth century, Anabaptist communities questioned infant baptism, rejected traditional church hierarchies, and attempted to rebuild Christian communities according to what they believed was the model of the early church. Their radical ideas created fear among both Catholic and Protestant authorities. Out of the religious turmoil of early modern Europe and the English Civil War era, new movements emerged. Baptists emphasized believer baptism and congregational church life. Quakers focused on the inner spiritual experience and rejected rigid church structures. Unitarians later developed a more rational and non-Trinitarian approach to Christianity. Together these movements reveal how radical reform, dissent, and religious experimentation helped shape the religious landscape of the English speaking world and the broader Atlantic world. #RadicalReformation #Anabaptists #Baptists #Quakers #Unitarians #ChurchHistory
