I am a registered nurse with special training in the treatment of spider veins both on the face and on the legs. At the VeinCare Centre, I undertake all the treatments for facial thread veins, because, by specialising and by having one person develop all the expertise in this treatment, we find we get better results. Before any treatment is started, I take a full medical history and in collaboration with my client, I assess which areas are of particular concern. The treatment is relatively straightforward and is called Short wave diathermy. First, I apply a local anaesthetic cream and after 30 minutes, I wipe it off and I clean the skin with antiseptic. With the aid of magnification and good illumination, I use a sterile single use needle to apply a very precise medical electrical current to the blood vessel. The electrical current cauterises and closes the blood vessel and over the course of a few weeks it disperses. Once the treatment is complete I apply a soothing gel to the area and then I apply a high factor UV protecting cream. In general, the results are excellent.
