Qui-Gon takes a deep breath as he stumbles into the halls of the Theed Royal Palace. Gripping his lightsaber tightly, he pushes Obi-Wan behind him and regards the warrior before him. Maul has a slight smile on his face as he advances, lightsaber twirling around. He was expecting to run into the Sith in Naboo, but was not expecting just how brutal this fight would be. The warrior moves gracefully and rains down attacks in a way that his Jedi defenses struggle to break. Whoever trained him did a good job, as he finds himself struggling and trying to catch his breath. Maul advances on him yet again, leaping into the air as his lightsaber arcs in a blinding circle. It twirls around and tries to decapitate him. Qui-Gon steps back from the blow and then ducks when Maul flips his weapon and tries to stab at him. Obi-Wan joins him and pushes the lightsaber around. But the Sith Warrior does not give up so easily and soon renews his attack yet again. He advances towards them and kicks Obi-Wan aside. This forces his master to step in and protect him. He catches the next blow and tries to push it aside, but Maul anticipates this and pushes his other blade until it grazes his thigh. Qui-Gon screams as he falls to his knees and barely manages to intercept Maul’s next attack. The weapon slowly begins forcing him down to his knees, and he can feel the heat of his lightsaber at his head. He is about to order Obi-Wan to run and save himself when that heat dissipates. Maul is now flying back across the room and catches himself. At the end of the hallway, Dooku stands, lightsaber held ready before him as he advances. Qui-Gon looks on in surprise as his master tells him to stay down. He rushes towards the Sith, and their lightsabers spark across the hall. Maul roars and tries to swing at Dooku, using the same maneuver he used to injure Dooku, yet the count is faster than he looks. When Maul pushes his blade, the Jedi Master jerks his lightsaber down and blocks it. He follows with a Force push against the wall, where Dooku rushes to face him. His Makashi style is quick and elegant, sliding through each stance and pushing Maul back with quick thrusts of his lightsaber. Maul is unused to this style and struggles to defend himself. He tries to spin his saberstaff and keep them at bay. For a time, this works, that is until Dooku leaps over the follow-up strike and lands perfectly behind Maul, where he drives his lightsaber into his chest. The nightbrother’s eyes widen in surprise before he slumps onto the ground. Qui-Gon: Master, what are you doing here? Dooku: I am here because you are in great danger, my boy. Now, where is young Skywalker? Qui-Gon: The boy? He was hiding in one of the starships. Yet when they get back to the hangar, they find that all the starships have departed and engaged the Trade Federation fleet. There is no sign of Anakin, meaning he had joined after that. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the palace, a tall figure in a dark robe marches through the halls of the palace by himself. He twirls the lightsaber in his hands as he feels Maul’s presence fading. The false apprentice has been killed, which means half of his job was completed for him. Now, all that matters is the task before him as he sees the small group of Naboo resistance fighters surrounding the Viceroy. Plagueis steps in and watches as they try to arrest Gunray. Plagueis: Not so fast, young ones. This transaction is far from complete. When the guard and handmaidens point their blasters at him. With a wave of his hand, the Sith Lord sends them all flying across the room. All save for the queen. Nute Gunray: Another one? We thank you for your aid, mighty warrior of the Dark Side. Plagueis: Save it. Inform your ship to remain on high alert. I sense a disturbance in the Force above us. He turns towards the queen, who stares at him defiantly. The young monarch does not move, but crosses her arms, as if waiting for him to speak. Plaguies responds by driving his lightsaber into her stomach. Plagueis: You think I am fooled by this little sleight of hand you’ve pulled. He points towards one of the handmaids and says she is the true queen. The droid guards quickly secure her, and Nute Gunray records her capture, saying that if the Naboo resistance does not lower their weapons, he will have her executed. Many of the fighters return home while the forces in the street surrender. Among the last of these is Anakin, who manages to infiltrate the droid command ship but finds the resistance too heavy and is forced to retreat.
