Watch full podcast:    • Видео   Much of what is taught about Sex, Marriage, Divorce, and Adultery in the Church today is culturally, rather than Biblically, defined. Reading St. Augustine’s “On the Good of Marriage” (AD 410) makes this very evident. There is only one definition of marriage in the Bible: Genesis 2:24. Jesus cites the passage when discussing marriage, divorce, & adultery (Matt 19:3-10, Mark 10:2-12). Likewise, Paul when discussing Marriage roles (Eph 5:31) and sex with prostitutes (1 Cor 6:16). Gen 2:24 "That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh." Matthew 19:4-6 "4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” “Is united” is the poetic rendering of sex. Hebrew “dabaq”, Strong’s Concordance “to impinge”; Oxford Dictionary for impinge, “drive something in.” A more literal translation of the Hebrew text would be: “Therefore shall leave a man his father and mother to impinge his woman, and they shall become united in body and kin.” Or in other words, Sex is Marriage. An engagement is the public intent to marry, a wedding is a feast celebrating a marriage, a license confirms a marriage with civil authorities, yet marriage occurs when a man enters a female virgin or widow. Scriptural proof? Ex 22:16 “If a man seduces a virgin who is not pledged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the bride-price, and she shall be his wife.” Example order of operations: “And Judah said unto Onan, go in unto thy [late] brother’s wife, and marry her...” (Gen 38:8 KJV) Note: "go in unto" is first, "marry" is second. Marriage commences during intercourse, not during a wedding. When Isaac married Rebekah, there was no engagement, ceremony, or certificate, only sex. “Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah, and he married Rebekah. So she became his wife, and he loved her...” (Gen 24:67) Yes, marriage occurs with Prostitutes: “Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh” (1 Cor 6:16). Yes, marriage occurs even when the man is already married. “Sarai... gave her to her husband to be his wife. He slept with Hagar” (Gen 16:3-4). Tinder teaches sex is casual but the Bible teaches sex is Marriage. No engagement, ceremony, or certificate necessary. Yes, a virgin married the first man she slept with. Yes, our break-ups are actually divorce. Yes, our next sexual relationship was adultery. Yes, I’m guilty too. The proper response to learning Biblical truth that opposes modern cultural definitions, is not rebellion, it’s repentance! I too had to wrestle and repent of my sexual sin. Jesus forgave the adulteress woman, and He forgives us to. Afterwards we “go and sin no more” (John 8:11).
