On March 13, 1881, a bomb exploded on the streets of St. Petersburg, killing Czar Alexander II—one of Russia's most reform-minded rulers. He had freed millions of serfs, expanded railroads, and introduced important legal reforms. But a radical terrorist group called the People’s Will decided it wasn’t enough.
