Clintonville is along the bus line directly north of downtown. It sits mere blocks above The Ohio State University and next to OhioHealth's Riverside Hospital. In the heart of Clintonville you'll hike trails, play on courts, or enjoy 13 acres of trees and flowers... we're talking about The Park of Roses. Friendly residents eagerly rattle off a list of locally-owned favorite spots. The community is home to more than 30-thousand people, but it still seems cozy. HISTORY From what we've found, the land appears to have been part of the Wyandotte Native American territory. The community developed more homes in the 1800's. The land now known as Clintonville was part of the land grants given to Continental Army soldiers in lieu of pensions. The village of Clintonville served as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Clinton Chapel, which is now Southwick Funeral home, was one of the more widely used stops over 2 decades. In the early 1900s, downtown residents and professors from OSU built summer homes in Clintonville. Soon streetcar lines prompted more of the farmland to fade into more and more housing. A business district popped up in Beechwold. Clintonville was even home to the first Columbus zoo and an amusement park delighted families from 1880 to 1939. HOUSING: You won't find just one home in Clintonville. This community has everything from a cozy bungalow to a regal, sprawling estate. Residents here tell us they tend to have more of an urban farmer feel than other parts of Columbus. EDUCATION: Clintonville is served by Columbus City Schools. It is also home to several Catholic schools and private schools.
