They shoulda hacked Rockman 2 or 5 instead but that's just my opinion. I was really not looking forward to this one but the sooner I get it out of the way the better, this one is by far the hardest of the NY ROM hacks so far but sadly for the worst reason, there's a game breaking bug that's so easy to trigger, It actually takes a lot of effort preventing it from happening but more on that later, there's also the fact that there are 4 phases and you might say "But the 2018 one also had 4 phases and that was your favorite one", which is true but unlike in NY 2018 each battle has 64 HP while in that game only 2 of those phases had health bars with double the standard amount of HP, that's just too much, it starts feeling like a chore after a while, now combine this tiring feeling with the aforementioned bug and you get my least favorite NY hack by far. To compensate for this problem I allowed charged shots, they're not absolutely necessary but make things way faster and easier, another big shortcut I was forced to abuse is the dash shot mechanic, which makes it so your lemons do double damage if you shoot them while dashing, I know this also was a thing in the 2021 one but that hack was so fun I really didn't feel the need to do so -tho, I still used it to reach a SA time in under 1 min and 25 secs in that game-; this dash exploit is not free to perform optimally, I prefer to tap all 3 buttons at the same time to avoid moving forward; on a side note, for the first time, the "No turbo" in the title actually matters. X^P Regarding the fights themselves, this time I won't discuss them with as much detail as I'm used to, I stopped having fun with this hack a while ago, I just don't feel like it deserves it, I'll just say what I think is important to know for each one, a shame really because the first 2 phases are solid. For the first battle with Storm Eagle is important to know that you can bounce the eggs he throws (up) back to him with a mid charged shot to deal 3 HP of damage, a full charged shot will only hatch the eggs faster, he also always starts with all his 3 attacks in the same order before becoming random; ah the second phase... probably the best freefall section of the series, not much to explain here, Eagle becomes Air Man for 1 attack, in this phase he also performs all his attacks (all 4 of them) once each in the same order every time, before becoming actually random, definitely the most fun of the whole game; the third part is the one I consider the weakest one, yes Sigma Penguin, yes he also does all 4 of his attacks the same way before becoming truly random but THIS is when the real problem starts, from now on any shot you fire that gets deflected downright hardlocks the game, for some reason... I'd say that's the best trait a maverick weapon can have, if X shots it, it causes him to malfunction, leave the mission and get stuck perpetually walking forward, also the ice sculptures take way too many shoots to destroy; last but not least we have the 4th phase, mandatory X Challenge mention, as cool as this is, there are many cheap scenarios where is not humanly possible to avoid damage, courtesy of Eagle's attacks or hitbox, this is the only phase where the boss(es) won't show all the attacks before becoming random, some of them are actually pretty rare to see -I even missed 2, so again, if you really wanna watch said attacks check • Видео -, nonetheless, the biggest problem of the previous section is doubled in this one, now you have to worry about the Shotgun Ice, tornados and eggs bugging the game, forcing you to hold your fire and really think through when to shoot next for the majority of the battle, as each shot could be the last one. For the extras I showcased 1 additional attack and the dreaded hardlock bug in action, there's probably a patch for that nowadays but the fact that it was released with such a hard to avoid game breaking problem makes it hard for me to enjoy this ROM, thankfully I only hardlocked once when I had roughly 80% progress in the final part, every other fail that I had there was due to me taking too long until I got cheapshot, since then I just wanted to finish this project that I wasn't liking anymore, this took overall 11 to 12 hrs to complete, with 5 additional hrs for practicing; since I'm sorta stuck with a SNES emulator for now I'll be doing the NY 2016 ROM next before taking a break from these, thank you very much for dropping by and see you next time.
