On February 24, 2022 around 9:50 PM, Patrolman Anthony Valle with the Keansburg Police Department was dispatched to Beachway Avenue and Laurel Avenue on a report of a possibly intoxicated driver who had struck a pole and drove away. The vehicle was described as a white Nissan SUV and the caller stated that the vehicle was crossing the bridge on Laurel Avenue towards Hazlet Township. S/O Christopher Jankowski and Patrolman Michael Thompson advised dispatch that they located a vehicle matching this description on Laurel Avenue and 10th Street and activated their emergency lights, but the vehicle did not stop until Holly Street and 9th Street in Hazlet Township. After she pulled over, the officers made contact with the driver, and they immediately recognized her as former WWE star Tamara Lynn Sytch. Tammy was instructed to turn off the car and exit the vehicle. As the officers were speaking with her, they detected the odor of alcohol and they noticed that she exhibited other indicators of impairment. Based on their suspicion of impairment, she was asked to perform field sobriety exercises. Patrolman Thompson started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test, but Tammy was unable to perform the test. Tammy was then asked to recite the alphabet from “C” to “X” and she was unable to do so. Based on her erratic driving, the odor of alcohol, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Tammy was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Her vehicle was impounded by Dawn’s Towing for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Patrolman Valle transported Tammy to the Keansburg Police Department for further processing. At the police station, Tammy was photographed and finger printed. They had her evaluated by EMS, but she declined to go to the hospital. Since their Alcotest machine was not working at the Keansburg Police Department, they had to transport her to the Hazlet Police Department nearby. At the Hazlet Police Department, Patrolman Valle read Tammy her Miranda rights and the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. Tammy agreed to submit breath samples and the Alcotest machine was administered by Patrolman Richard Wilhelm of Hazlet PD. Her Alcotest results indicated a BAC of 0.30%, which was almost 4 times the legal limit of 0.08%. After the Alcotest was administered, Tammy was transported back to the Keansburg Police Department. Following her eighth DWI arrest in Keansburg, she was issued the following summonses: Operating under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to wear seat belt, failure to install ignition interlock device, driving without a license, failure to possess driver’s license, failure to possess registration, failure to possess insurance, driving with a suspended license, and operating a motor vehicle during license suspension (2nd violation) On March 25, 2022, Tammy was later involved in a fatal accident with a 75-year-old man in Ormond Beach, Florida. Her BAC was 0.28% after the fatal crash. After she was arrested for that fatal accident, she was eventually sentenced to 17 years in prison. She is currently incarcerated at the Lowell Correctional Institution. ------------------------------------------ Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting this channel (email us for more information). All videos and case documents were obtained pursuant to the New Jersey Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq. (P.L. 2001, c. 404). Defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty. The New Jersey Supreme Court has previously affirmed in Salzano v. North Jersey Media Group, 993 A.2d 778 (2010) that “The fair-report privilege reflects the judgment that the need, in a self-governing society, for free-flowing information about matters of public interest outweighs concerns over the uncompensated injury to a person's reputation.” This video advances a compelling public interest. The summary of events was based on records that are “open to public view through open access to public records” as defined in the Salzano case. In Ramos v. Flowers, 429 N.J. Super. 13, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court has also affirmed the right to film law enforcement interactions.
