The revolutionaries including Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaq Ulla Khan and Chandra Shekhar Azad were looking to raise funds for the revolutionary activities of Hindustan Republican Association. After the train heist due to a small mistake, they were caught. Ram Prasad Bismil, Roshan Singh, Ashfaq Ulla and Rajendra Lahiri were sentenced to death for their involvement in the Kakori conspiracy. While several others were sentenced to jail.
