LeFort III Osteotomy Indications: Severe midfacial hypoplasia Craniofacial syndromes (e.g., Crouzon syndrome, Apert syndrome) Complex facial fractures Procedure: An incision is made across the forehead and down along the sides of the nose. The cuts extend through the orbits (eye sockets) and across the zygomatic arches. The entire midface, including the orbits, nasal bones, and maxilla, is mobilized. The face is repositioned and fixed in place with plates and screws. Postoperative Considerations Healing and Recovery: Patients must postoperatively follow a specific diet and oral hygiene regimen. Healing time varies depending on the extent of the surgery. Complications: Possible complications include infection, bleeding, nerve damage, and issues with bone healing. However, these are relatively rare with proper surgical technique and postoperative care. Follow-Up: Regular follow-up is necessary to monitor healing, adjust orthodontic appliances, and promptly address complications.
