The six sonatas of Opus 13, "Il Pastor Fido," were long attributed to Antonio Vivaldi. In 1977, 240 years after their publication, it was discovered that the French composer Nicolas Chédeville had entered into a secret agreement with the composer-publisher Jean-Noël Marchand to publish a collection of his own compositions as being by Antonio Vivaldi. Chédeville financed the publication and received the profits, as attested in 1749 by a notarial act of Marchand, discovered in 1989 in the 'Minutier Central' of the National Archives in Paris.
