Shabads are hymns or spiritual poems written by saints and mystics from different spiritual traditions of the Indian subcontinent. The shabads convey a deep message of truth and are sung with heartfelt devotion. They express the intense longing of the soul for union with the Lord. These songs of devotion are prayers that inspire the true seeker to turn inwards to contact the ultimate Truth – the inner divine music that reverberates within every being. Lovers are always engaged in contemplation of the Beloved. They even deny themselves sleep, so absorbed are they in their practice of God’s real Nam. They are restless every moment; day and night, they are in agony because of separation from God. Bahu hails the good fortune of those who rightly devote themselves to the lesson of Oneness. A lover remains completely intoxicated in the ecstasy of his love for the Beloved. He offers his soul to the Beloved while still living and thus immortalizes himself in both the worlds. Why should anyone whose heart shines with the light of God burn candles outside? Grossly limited is your understanding, O Bahu. The intellect and worry have no access to that realm of love. My heart is ablaze with the fire of love – who will quench the flames? How do I know what this love is? It has made me bow my head at every doorstep. Love neither sleeps nor lets me sleep; it wakes me up as soon as I fall asleep. O Bahu, I sacrifice myself to anyone who reunites me with my long-separated Friend. This shabad is published by Radha Soami Satsang Beas. You may visit our official website at: https://www.rssb.org
