The Story of Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:1–16) In this powerful Bible story from the Book of Genesis, we learn about the first two brothers born to Adam and Eve — Cain and Abel. Cain was a farmer, and Abel was a shepherd. One day, both brothers brought offerings to the Lord. Abel brought the best portions from his flock, but Cain did not give his best. God accepted Abel’s offering, but He rejected Cain’s (Genesis 4:3–5). Instead of correcting his heart, Cain became angry and jealous. God warned him: “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” — Genesis 4:7 (NIV) Sadly, Cain did not listen. He attacked his brother Abel in the field and killed him (Genesis 4:8). When God asked where Abel was, Cain responded: “Am I my brother’s keeper?” — Genesis 4:9 (KJV) Because of his sin, Cain was cursed to wander the earth. Yet even in judgment, God showed mercy by placing a mark on Cain to protect him from being killed (Genesis 4:15). ✨ Lessons From This Story This story teaches us: • God looks at the heart (Hebrews 11:4) • Jealousy and anger can lead to sin (James 1:14–15) • We are responsible for one another • God is both just and merciful As 1 John 3:12 reminds us: “Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother.” 📌 Scripture Reference: Genesis 4:1–16 🎥 Watch this story to understand the dangers of jealousy and the importance of offering God our best.
