This is a cultural song and dance video of the Limbu people in Kalimpong, India. The Limbu people is one of main branch of Kirat family. The Kirati family or the Kirat confederation includes the Dhimal, the Rai, the Jirel, the Hayu, the Sunuwar, the Surel, the Thami, the Yakkha and many other Mongoloid ethnic groups of Nepal speaking Tibetan-Burmese Kiranti language. The Limbu also call themselves Yakthung are indigenous and native to the Himalayan Limbuwan region of the Indian subcontinent, in what is now modern-day Eastern Nepal, Northern Sikkim in India and Western Bhutan. The original name of Limbus is Yakthung, Yakthungba or Yakthungma. Limbu males and Limbu females are called "Yakthungba" and "Yakthungma". In Limbu language Yakthungba means "heroes of the hills" (Yak - hills, thung or thum - heroes or mighty warriors), which connotation with ancient Kiratas. Today Limbus people are also known by the name Subba. The name Subba is a title given by the Shah Kings to Limbu village chiefs. In Nepal, the Limbus are mainly centered in the districts of Sankhuwasabha, Tehrathum, Dhankuta, Taplejung, Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa, Panchthar, Ilam in Nepal.
