It is the Spirit of God that bears the fruit of the Spirit. Thus, this transformation or rebirth into the image of the Spirit of God is a thorough change in form and in substance. 1. SPIRITUAL HEART God replaces the stony and wicked heart with a heart of love and compassion. God says He destroyed the world in Genesis 6:5-6 because of the continual wickedness in the heart of man. Genesis 6:5-6 - (5) "Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (6) And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart." When one becomes truly born again of the Spirit of God, the first thing God takes away is a stony heart and gives us His heart of flesh - Ezekiel 11:19-20, Ezekiel 18:30-31. This is the first thing that testifies that God now dwells in our hearts. That is why Jesus Christ says in Matthew 5:8 - "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." - There is no righteousness or holiness without purity in heart - a heart of love, mercy, and compassion.
