Exhumation Of WWII Soviet POW Mass Grave In Malta

We got back to Malta to continue recovering Soviet POWs from the mass grave. The mass grave happened to be a mass grave of Soviet POWs. The mass grave was found because of the construction work of sewage water pipe and after police determined that these are not just usual homicide victims, local authorities asked us for help. Two weeks ago we have recovered 38 bodies in the center of village Malta, Latvia. Many of them were executed by a gunshot to the side of the head. The way how they were killed and laid in graves reminded Friedrich Jeckeln's system, which sometimes is referred to as "sardine packing" (Sardinenpackung), cruel and effective extermination method. At first, it was hard to determine who they are, we could tell that they seem to be fit, young males, and we supposed that they were Soviet POWs. Later on, we have found one Soviet button and a buckle from Soviet trousers. Seems that they were killed being naked. There could be up to 350 more lost POWs in the ground. We will see how many we will find today.
