What is mylar and what can it be used for? 0:00 What is mylar 1:12 Properties of mylar 2:24 Good for stencils 3:15 Cutting mylar 3:58 Durability 4:51 Food grade mylar 5:15 Cleaning mylar 6:12 Our mylar selection 7:03 Other uses for mylar Today we are talking about Mylar, a thin, strong film often used for things like balloons. Mylar is a great material for making stencils, and we sell a lot of it to people crafting at home or in factories. Mylar was created by DuPont and is actually a type of polyethylene film. It’s very tough—much tougher than the balloon material, which is very thin. Mylar doesn’t stretch or tear easily, making it perfect for stencils. You can see how strong it is; even when I try to tear it, I can’t. It’s also flexible, so it can wrap around curved surfaces without losing its shape. We mainly use 10 mil Mylar for stencils because it holds fine details well. Thinner Mylar (like 4 mil) is popular for home crafters, especially with cutting machines like Cricut. Home cutting machines work best with 4 mil over some the thicker materials. We, however, use lasers for our stencils and often choose 7 or 10 mil Mylar because it’s durable and reusable. Mylar is chemically stable and food-safe, making it safe for contact with food. It can be used with various paints, and cleanup is easy with solvents like acetone or mineral spirits. We sell Mylar in various sizes, from small sheets to large rolls. During COVID, we even supplied clear Mylar for face shields and protective barriers. People also use Mylar for protective coatings on furniture and vehicles, as it can withstand damage. It’s a versatile and long-lasting material, great for many creative projects. https://www.stencilease.com/search?q=...
