Dependable Machines That Endure: The Stanray Wheel Truing Machine

In 2016, the final wheel truing cycles were conducted on the second Stanray® TN-84C Underfloor Wheel Truing Machine ever built - after 65 years of operation! The Stanray in question was originally installed in a Class I Railroad’s locomotive maintenance facility in June 1951. The machine kept their rail vehicles' wheel sets safe and on track for up to three shifts per day, seven days per week, and 365 days per year. The shop’s excellent operators and maintenance staff (with support from the NSH USA Customer Service Center‘s OEM parts + service) deserve much of the credit for keeping this dependable machine running for so long. The facility was not without a wheel truing machine for too long, as a remanufactured Stanray was installed in its place. Here’s hoping the new one can top the 65 years of its predecessor.
