On September 6, 2024, Las Cruces Police Officer Rodriguez observed a vehicle driving at an extremely slow speed and almost strike a motorcycle. He initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and the 23-year-old driver gave conflicting information about where she was going. She was asked numerous times if she had consumed any alcohol, but she denied it each time. At one point, she called her brother, who was allegedly going to drive 3 hours to be by her side during the traffic stop. She refused to participate in field sobriety testing and was immediately placed under arrest. At the police station, she agreed to provide breath samples, which registered 0.20% BAC and 0.18% BAC. She was charged with aggravated DUI and impeding traffic. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
