If there is partially erupted , there may be food lodgement and it may cause dental caries which may cause a flare up or pain, which may necessitate the removal of the tooth, in some cases, the tooth may not emerge completely over the gums and the gum flap that is covering the tooth, which may again cause food lodgement and a condition called as pericoronitis, where there may be inflammation of the gums in such cases there may be a gum surgery or may be excision of the gums may be required or maybe removal of the entire impacted tooth, in very rare cases the impacted tooth that is completely embedded in the bone or may be if it is partially erupted, may develop a risk of a dental cyst. In such cases an x-ray may reveal such a cyst and visit to a dentist may necessitate the removal of the entire tooth and to remove the cyst.
