Here's a new crochet tutorial for you guys! This time, we're crocheting a checkered bucket hat using some variegated yarn. This gave it a really cool effect! I made this bucket hat to fit my head, which is 53 cm. If you have a similar head size, same yarn size, and same crocheting tension, you should be able to follow this pattern exactly! If you have a smaller head, you might need to take off a round at the top (7). If you have a larger head, you might need to add another round to the top (9). Materials: Red Heart Super Saver in "White": https://amzn.to/3lha1w2 Red Heart Super Saver Stripes in "Parrot Stripe": https://amzn.to/3jH5faO Weight: Medium (4) Fiber: 100% Acrylic Approximate total length: 120 yd / 110 m Approximate total weight: 2.5 oz / 72 g 5.0 mm Clover Amour Crochet Hook (Amazon affiliate link): https://amzn.to/3noE9mz Yarn Needle Scissors Project Level: This is a great project for beginners who want to start color changing. In this tutorial, I go in depth with how I change yarn colors, including how to switch yarns, carry over, and how to keep the carried yarn colors from peeking through. This project also uses back loop only and front loop only. There are optional, so if you can't figure it out, you don't have to just yet! Even better, this pattern does NOT have a magic circle in it! Many people had trouble with the magic circle in my first bucket hat video, so I thought I should show you all another method! Stitches: Slip Knot (sk) Chain (ch) Double Crochet (dc) Slip Stitch (sl st) Gauge: 14 double crochets - 8.5 rows = 4 in / 10 cm Dimensions: Top - 19.5 cm / 7.7" flattened or 17 cm / 6.7" relaxed Middle - 7 cm / 2.75" Brim - 3.5 cm / 1.4" Circumference - 51 cm / 20" Tips: The number of rounds you do for the top determines the size of the hat. My head is about 53 cm, and 8 rounds fit me perfectly Tighten your slip stitches to make the seam smaller and less visible The chain 2 at the beginning of each round does NOT count as a double crochet If the circle for the top of the hat does not lay perfectly flat, it's okay! If it's curved a lot, you may have missed some stitches. If it's super ruffly, you may have added some stitches Send me a picture of your finished bucket hat on Instagram @viv.crochets! I’d love to see it! Thanks for watching!
