Eric Davies is a PhD candidate at the University of Toronto where he is developing theoretical and applied tools for restoring urban biodiversity. Prior to going urban, Eric's research focused on the sustainable use of wilderness areas, including projects in Algonquin Park, the Arctic, and coastal regions of Pacific, Atlantic, and Central America. The switch from wilderness to urban sustainability happened when he came across an intriguing article on the Sustainable Sites Initiative, an initiative to bring wilderness back to North American cities by promoting native plants. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
