🔴 Secunderabad Bonalu LIVE | ఉజ్జయినీ మహాంకాళి జాతర ప్రత్యక్షప్రసారం 2025 |@Achala Bhakthi Tv #live Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Bonalu Jathara, also known as Bonalu Festival, is one of the most prominent and traditional Hindu festivals celebrated in Secunderabad, Telangana, particularly at the Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple. Here’s a detailed overview of this grand event: 🪔 Overview Festival Name: Bonalu (Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Bonala Jathara) Location: Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple, Secunderabad, Telangana Type: Religious / Cultural Deity Worshipped: Goddess Mahankali (an incarnation of Kali) Time of Celebration: Ashada masam (July–August), typically on Sundays 📜 Historical Background The festival has its origins in the 19th century, when a plague struck Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Soldiers from Hyderabad stationed in Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) prayed to Goddess Mahankali to stop the epidemic, promising to install her idol in Secunderabad if the plague ended. Once it subsided, they brought her idol and installed it at Ujjaini Mahankali Temple, marking the start of the Bonalu tradition in the region. 🪘 Key Rituals and Celebrations 1. Bonam Offering Women prepare a Bonam, an offering consisting of cooked rice, jaggery, curd, and water in a brass or earthen pot, adorned with neem leaves and turmeric. They carry the Bonam on their heads and offer it to the deity as a thanksgiving gesture. 2. Pothuraju A male dancer, believed to be the goddess’s brother, Pothuraju leads the female devotees. He performs vigorous dances, smeared with turmeric and wearing bells, while cracking whips and invoking the goddess's energy. 3. Ghatam Procession A decorated metal pot, Ghatam, symbolizing the deity, is carried in a grand procession. The Ghatam is led through the streets with music, drums, and devotional chanting, culminating in a vibrant celebration. 4. Rangam (Oracle) On the day following Bonalu, a woman (believed to be possessed by the goddess) predicts future events during a ritual called Rangam. 5. Procession of the Ghatam The Ghatam procession on the last day marks the climax of the festival, drawing thousands of devotees, including political leaders and celebrities. 🕌 Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple Located in Secunderabad, this temple is the focal point of the Bonalu festival. It witnesses massive footfall, with lakhs of devotees thronging to offer prayers. 🌟 Cultural Significance Bonalu is not just a religious festival but a symbol of Telangana’s regional pride, showcasing its unique folk traditions, music, dance, and devotion. In 2014, it was declared the state festival of Telangana after the formation of the new state.
