Grant Oliphant Chief Executive Officer Conrad Prebys Foundation in conversation with Joanna Jackson President & CEO The Weingart Foundation Jennifer Price-Letscher President & CEO The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation Richard Tate President & CEO The California Wellness Foundation Joanna Jackson has over 25 years of experience in the nonprofit, philanthropic, and public sectors. She joined the Weingart Foundation in 2008 and became President & CEO on June 7, 2024. Previously, she held roles at the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, The California Endowment, and the City of San Jose. Joanna serves on the boards of Southern California Grantmakers and Grantmakers for Effective Organizations. She holds a master’s in public administration from Baruch College and a bachelor’s from Spelman College. Originally from New York, she lives in Los Angeles with her husband and children. — ∞ — Richard Tate is President and CEO of The California Wellness Foundation, overseeing its $1 billion in assets and directing grants to promote health equity, justice, and advocacy for marginalized communities. Tate, a member of the LGBTQ community and a man of color, brings his lived experience to his leadership, championing diversity, equity, and inclusion. He joined Cal Wellness in 2016, leading public affairs and digital communications, and was appointed Executive Vice President in 2020. Tate has driven key initiatives, including the Hope and Heal Fund for gun violence prevention. Prior to Cal Wellness, he held leadership roles at Hopelab and Chiron Corporation. — ∞ — Jennifer Price-Letscher is President and CEO of The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation. She joined the Foundation in 2011, bringing extensive experience in nonprofit and philanthropic leadership, including roles at the Sterling-Dorman and Whitecap foundations. She has worked across arts, education, the environment, and youth development. Jennifer holds an MSc in positive organizational development from Case Western Reserve University, a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon, and certifications in appreciative inquiry, sustainability, coaching, and college counseling. She serves on several boards, including Westside Neighborhood School, SEED School LA, and Southern California Grantmakers. — ∞ — Grant Oliphant is CEO of The Conrad Prebys Foundation, focused on arts, healthcare, youth development, and education in San Diego. Previously, he led The Heinz Endowments, advancing sustainability, creativity, and social equity. He also served as president of the Pittsburgh Foundation, growing its assets and reshaping community philanthropy. An advocate for effective giving, Grant hosted the podcast We Can Be and often writes and speaks on philanthropy. He has chaired the Center for Effective Philanthropy and the Communications Network. Grant has also worked in advertising, politics, and media, and authored the novel Ring of Years. He and his wife, Aradhna, live in Mission Hills with their four children. The USC Center on Philanthropy & Public Policy promotes effective philanthropy and strengthens the nonprofit sector to deepen the understanding of philanthropy and its changing landscape. By conducting groundbreaking research that is rigorous and relevant, and widely sharing the findings, the Center provides information and insights to create meaningful change.
