Penn AERD Center patient Susan describes her experience with Aspirin Exacerbated Respiratory Disease (AERD), which is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the sinuses and lungs that causes people to have an allergic-like reaction to aspirin and other Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). Dr. Nithin Adappa, Surgical Director at the Penn AERD Center, and his team of specialists performed surgery to remove Susan's nasal polyps and clean out her sinuses. Dr. John Bosso, Medical Director at the Penn AERD Center, then performed aspirin desensitization to treat the underlying cause of AERD. Susan is now experiencing long-term relief from her AERD. Her treatment at the Penn AERD Center has prevented polyp regrowth after surgery, allowed her to safely take NSAIDs again, and given her the ability to smell, taste, and comfortably exercise and sleep again.
