Lyrics: The Deer Bleat Professor Yanchun Zhao translated 赵彦春 教授 英译 The deer each to each bleat; Afield wormwood they eat. I have good guests today; The lute and flute we play. The reed and strings vibrate; I put gifts in the crate. They are indeed good friends, Showing me means and ends. The deer each to each bleat; Afield marrow they eat. I have good guests today; Good virtues they display. They teach folks not to steal, The lord's their ideal and weal. I have good food and wine; Happily, happily my guests dine. The deer each to each bleat; Afield scullcaps they eat. I have good guests today; The lute and lye we play. The lute and lye we play; We are so happy and gay. I have good food and wine. Merrily, merrily my guests dine. John Warden translated Yo-o-o! the call of the deer, browsing the wild fern. Welcome, my wonderful guests! Strum the lute and blow the pipes, blow the pipes, set the reeds in motion. Bring them baskets. They are my dear friends. They show me the way to live. Yo-o-o! the call of the deer, browsing the wild sagebrush. Welcome, my wonderful guests! Their virtue shines bright; true gentlemen, who teach restraint, an example for all to follow. Here is good wine! Drink and be merry! Yo-o-o! the call of the deer, browsing the wild saltwort. Welcome, my wonderful guests! Strum the lute and strike the harp, Strum the lute and strike the harp in sweet entrancing harmony. Here is good wine! Feast and be happy, my wonderful guests!
