Perched dramatically on the rocky promontory dividing Levante and Poniente beaches, the Castle Viewpoint — also known as the Balcony of the Mediterranean or Mirador del Castell — is one of Benidorm’s most unforgettable sights. From its white-stone balustrade and checkerboard patterned floor, you can gaze out across the glimmering Mediterranean, trace the sweeping curves of both beaches, and watch the skyline of Benidorm rise behind you against the mountains. The view is especially magical at sunrise or sunset, when the light softens and the city lights begin to sparkle. The Old Town of Benidorm, just a few winding, cobbled alleys away, is a charming counterpoint to the spectacle of the viewpoint. You’ll find the 18th-century Iglesia de San Jaime y Santa Ana presiding over narrow streets, hidden plazas, and old fishermen-district ambience. The Old Town is rich with tapas bars, artisan shops, and lively cafés, where locals and visitors mingle in the golden hours. The Castro / castle itself no longer stands in full; the fortress that once guarded these cliffs from pirate raids in the 14th-16th centuries has mostly vanished, though cannons, some walls, and the fortress’s layout remain in bits in the viewpoint area. Footage — whether drone or handheld — from this viewpoint often captures sweeping panoramas: the contrast of sea and sky, the juxtaposition of the modern high-rises with the rustic old town’s rooftops, and the lines of palm trees bordering the beaches. It’s a favoured backdrop for reunions—family, friends, or romantic get-togethers—because standing there, you feel both the pulse of the city below and the timeless calm of the sea. The view, the breeze, and the light combine to make moments there feel vivid and lasting. #benidorm #benidormwalking #oldtown #holiday #walkingtour #walking
