SAD chief Sukhbir Badal apologises to Sikh community for 2015 sacrilege case: 'Seek forgiveness'

Amritsar (Punjab): Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on December 14 apologised to the Sikhs over the 2015 sacrilege cases. He said, “I sincerely and unconditionally seek forgiveness of the Khalsa Panth that heinous act of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji happened during Akali govt. I also apologize that we couldn't apprehend and punish the culprits during the brief remaining part of our tenure." In 2015, the incidents of sacrilege occurred between June to October following the theft of the sacred Guru Granth Sahib from a Gurudwara in Burj Jawaharsinghwala, Faridkot, and the discovery of torn pages from the Holy Book in Bargari, Faridkot. The incidents caused widespread discontent and outrage amongst members of the Sikh community and there were demonstrations from place to place. A similar demonstration was taking place on October 14 in Bahibal Kalan, a village near Bargari, where the police, who arrived to remove the protesters, opened fire and two people died in it. ► Subscribe to The Economic Times for latest video updates.
