This video gives examples of how parents, clinicians and educational staff can use a technique called The Six Sound Test to help children with hearing loss make the best possible use of their amplification. The Ling Six Sound Test, developped by Daniel Ling, is used internationally as a quick and portable way to determine whether children with hearing loss are hearing everything they need to. It shows us if children are able to detect or identify sounds across the full spectrum of speech and gives them the best possible chance of developping strong listening and spoken language skills. The Listening and Spoken Language Services for the Hearing Impaired (LSSHI) at Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and the Digital Media and IT program at The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) collaborated on a project that has recently been posted, to considerable international acclaim, on the AHS You Tube website. Kathryn Ritter and Kathy Logan de Chavez, from Glenrose, developed the original concept and script. The video was produced and directed by 2nd year student Justin Evans and involved some 20 students in the production, filling roles as camera operators, editors, gaffers, even hair and makeup. The entire process took almost 3 months, including 4 days of intensive filming in families' homes and at Glenrose. Response from the professional community has been coming in steadily; For more information on the Glenrose Hospital's Listening and Spoken Language Services for the Hearing Impaired (LSSHI) contact Dr. Kathryn Ritter at [email protected] For more information on NAIT's Digital Media and IT program visit http://www.nait.ca/program_home_78110...
