Can skins influence game performance? Esports Research Colloquium 4 with Dr. Christian Böffel

This is a recording of the Esports Research Colloquium on July 7, 2021. The idea of this colloquium is to provide a forum for knowledge exchange, for networking, and for discussing research ideas. Christian Böffel and Sophie Würger have done a study investigating the impact of avatar customizuation with cosmetic micotransactions with the working title "The Influence of Character Customization with Cosmetic Microtransactions on Subjective Experience and Objective Performance". Sophie was a student of Christian writing her thesis and therefore collected some data. Dr. Christian Böffel (  / cboffel  ) has provided a presentation on the influence of skins on performance and gaming experience in esports. The studies that Dr. Christian Böffel presented were conducted in collaboration with Sophie Würger, Marvin Burri, Prof Jochen Müsseler and Prof. Sabine J. Schlittmeier. Within the presentation, Dr. Christian Böffel talked about his gaming history, skins in general, two studies addressing skins in esports, future research, and practical implications. While study 1 focused on the impact of character customization on gaming experience and objective performance, study 2 investigated the influence of skins on the evaluation of a situation. So far, these studies have not been published.
