CAPCOM VARTH - Sony PlayStation 2 - Sony Trinitron | Classic Hardware | Single Credit Gameplay

Varth is a 1992 vertical shoot-em-up from Capcom on the CPS1 platform. Varth has a few unique features that set it apart from its contemporaries including a unique R-Type style orb system that can absorb incoming enemy projectiles while also acting as an additional weapon that can shoot homing missiles or napalm. More interestingly, the player's bomb supply regenerates over time, which definitely comes in handy when dealing with enemies that enter through the bottom of the screen. These advantages are slightly offset by the speed of the enemy projectiles which can quickly ruin an otherwise good run. All that said, the game feels fair and is a lot of fun. In this playthrough, I challenge myself to a single credit with 4 lives, making it to the 8th stage.
