(4 Mar 1999) Russian/Nat Student protesters gathered outside the State Duma on Thursday to express anger at NATO's eastward expansion. The protest came as the same subject was under discussion at a conference in the Duma by the Russian parliament's 'anti-NATO' group. Hundreds of young Russians gathered on Thursday outside the Russian Parliament to express their anger at the U-S bombardment of Iraq and NATO's threats against Serbia. Students from Moscow's 15 universities, who were protesting at the same time as the subject was being discussed by the Duma's anti-NATO group, consider the alliance and the U-S to be enemies, now that they pose a threat to Russia's strategic allies. Moreover, they say NATO'S eastward expansion will endanger Russia's role in world politics. They are ready to volunteer and fight in Serbia against what they describe as an invasion.
