Although the Beatles are certainly not among the 'unsung heroes' category of musicians, being the most popular musical group in history, some of their songs flew under the radar a bit more than others and have drifted out of the public consciousness a bit. We feel this simple little song actually makes a nice country tune and decided to make it fit our style... and we believe it does. "Mother Nature's Son" was inspired by Paul McCartney's experience at the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ashram in India in 1968. The Beatles traveled there to study Transcendental Meditation, and during their time there, McCartney spent a lot of time contemplating nature and life. McCartney has said that the song was inspired by the peacefulness and simplicity of nature he observed while at the ashram. The idea for the song came from a deep reflection on his feelings toward the natural world and the idea of returning to simplicity and harmony. McCartney said the inspiration for "Mother Nature's Son" came from his personal journey and the serenity he found in nature during that period of time. The song was written by McCartney, sung by him and he played the main acoustic guitar part. The other Beatles contributed only slightly to the arrangement compared to how the band normally created in the studio. George Harrison played some tambourine and sang some small harmony parts. John Lennon played the bass and Ringo played some nearly imperceptible drum parts. In what was becoming a standard feature of the later Beatles records, producer George Martin orchestrated some strings and horns to give the song a unique blend between a folk and classical treatment. We hope you enjoy this great Beatles song and the soft country feel we apply to it. As you'll see in the intro and the outro to this song, the hardest parts of the process are remembering to start recording the audio and turning on the cameras. I can't tell you how many pretty good takes were lost due to one or the other or both things not being done, only to find out later that it wasn't captured. The boys in the band are supposed to remind me before each take to hit the 'start' button. They also don't always remember. The second hard thing for me personally when doing these videos has been figuring out how to keep my earbud monitors from falling out mid-song. In this case, the left earpiece was hanging by a delicate thread for a good part of the song and I knew the slightest head motion was going to dislodge it. However, despite looking like I had a stiff neck, I was able to stay focused enough on the song to perform and finish it while also keeping the earpiece from falling out. I do believe however, that this could be the last time I have to deal with this issue as I have developed a duct tape solution! @TheBeatles
