(24 Jul 1977) World Champion James Hunt claimed the 'pole position' on the grid at the start of the British Grand Prix. For 49 laps, the lead was held by John Watson, then a fault put his Brabham out of the race. Hunt took the lead and kept it until the chequered flag, thus delighting the British crowd. In second place was Austrian Niki Lauda, now the leader of the World Championship Table.
