The Omar Sosa Quintet in Hamburg part1 In this present concert Omar Sosa is celebrating his music in lyrical, solistic parts up to collective improvisations. The foundation is build up from pieces of his CDs "Mulatos" and "Afreecanos". In both CDs the cuban roots of Omar Sosa are treated completely different not only with the musical culture of West- and North-Africa, but also with influences of classical Jazz and French music. Besides the members of his recent trio: Childo Tomas (Bass/ Mozambik) and Julio Barreto (Drums/Kuba) two old acquaintances are joining him for his concert in Hamburg: The man of many flutes and saxophones, Leandro Saint-Hill, a cuban musician who lives in Hamburg and also the multipercusionist Marcos Ilukan, who is commuting between Havanna and Hamburg. Because of them many of his pieces were flavoured with strong afrocuban additions which created a high spirited and hot mixture. The musician`s communication on stage is incredible. During quiet and very lyrical played parts nobody dominates the others. But because of their careful awareness of looks and body language everybody can shine in solistic parts or different duos. Very often the pieces are changing fluently or sometimes abruptly into wild, expressive parts. The musicians are playing back and forth with their musical ideas, which they treat in mutual exchange and weave them into a brilliant musical wickerwork.
