A slow, detailed close-up of my dad's handmade Santa María (1492) model ship—built entirely from scratch and hand-carved, with every major piece shaped and finished by hand. This video is all about the craftsmanship: I slowly move over the full exterior of the hull, then take my time on the decking, masts, and fittings, using steady pans and lingering close-ups to show the texture and precision in the build. You’ll see details like the planking, rigging, deck layout, sterncastle, and overall profile—the kind of small touches that are easy to miss unless the camera slows down and gets right in there. No narration—just the visuals, slow movement, and a calm, focused look at the model. A bit of history The Santa María was the largest of the three ships used by Christopher Columbus on his first transatlantic voyage in 1492. Serving as his flagship, it played a pivotal role in the initial European contact with the Americas. Unlike the smaller and more nimble Niña and Pinta, the Santa María was a slower cargo ship (a nao), and it famously ran aground and was wrecked off the coast of Hispaniola on Christmas Day, 1492. Quick reference notes · Type: Nao (Carrack-style cargo ship) · Owner: Juan de la Cosa · Fate: Ran aground and wrecked near Hispaniola on 25 December 1492 · General characteristics: Estimated 58–75 ft (18–23 m) in length, with a single deck and three masts. Model notes (from my dad's build) · Complete length (Puna dužina): 35 inches · Hull length (Samo trup): 25 inches · Height (Visina): 25 inches · Built entirely from scratch based on plans and historical references.
