About Star Wars: Episode IV - New Hope's Crawl: The original crawl in 1977 began with the standard "A long time ago..." text with the Star Wars logo, which happened to be slightly stretched out horizontally; however, the episode title and number was omitted. The theatrical version was created with a one-foot by six-foot model of the text, then a camera slowly panned over it. The logo happened to exponentially fly into the distance and fade out when compared to other logos as well. Colors were slightly darker. During the 1981 and subsequent re-release (omitting the 2006 special edition), "A New Hope" and "Episode IV" were added. "Rebel" in the phrase "rebel spies" was also capitalized, and the music was slightly retimed. Finally, with the 1977 special editions, the crawl was changed to match the rest of the trilogy in stylizing. It was recreated digitally for the 2004 DVD edition, 2011 Blu-Ray (1080p) edition, and the 2015 Digital Movie Collection. About this Project: This collection of 4K, 2.35 recreations and tutorials of Star Wars crawls in Adobe CS6 and After Effects is meant to provide a reference for other filmmakers to learn to produce the logo and crawls for their own projects. The WMM is intended for homemade movies, while the After Effects version is intended for professional quality movies. Additionally, with the text preserved, Star Wars analysts are able to interpret the timings, story, and meanings behind this famous piece of movie history. I had learned a lot about the crawl while working on this, with numerous details discovered while rendering these. The Empire Strikes Back crawl covers a wider field than others. Only even numbered episodes have words in all caps. Attack of the Clones is the only film to pan up after the crawl. The text has an average of 17 lines each. In a sense, the crawl has become a piece of meaningful art to me, almost like poetry. SUBSCRIBE, LIKE, AND ENJOY! Video copyright © 2015 by Spencer N.
