Sompasaari (also known as Sumparn in Swedish) is an island located in Kruunuvuorenselkä, Helsinki. It is part of the Sörnäinen district. Originally a separate island, it was later connected to the mainland through land reclamation and became part of Sörnäinen’s harbor area. Sompasaari was historically used for recreational purposes, and its lush vegetation included over 300 different plant species. In the 1950s and 1960s, it was merged with the mainland, leaving only Korkeasaari and Mustikkamaa as neighboring islands. Nowadays, Sompasaari has been transformed into a residential area12.
