Crowd jeers as Border Patrol vehicle with flattened tires leaves neighborhood

Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — Protesters confronted federal agents at a home in the Park Avenue neighborhood Tuesday morning. A U.S. Customs and Border Protection vehicle was parked outside the home on Westminster Road. A CBP spokesperson said an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation was carried out there but declined to comment further. Assemblymember Jen Lunsford said she was told CBP approached the rear of the home as roofers were doing work. "I showed up today at a call from the New York Immigration Coalition as an attorney out of concern that there needed to be official warrants," Lunsford said. "This is a private residence, so we just wanted to make sure that everything is happening within the bounds of the law." Ruth Reeves was among the dozens of people who came to the scene. "They’re here putting on a roof, trying to make a dollar and paying taxes on that dollar, and ICE was here bothering them, so I came to bother ICE," Reeves said. As the CBP vehicle sat along Westminster Road, its tires appeared to have been deflated. Members of the crowd jeered as the vehicle eventually drove away with flat tires. "City by city, state by state, we have to stand up and we have to fight, and we have to tell them we're not standing for this anymore," Reeves said. Lunsford noted the federal officials at the site were identifiable.
