Preamping this small Orange amp to “warm up” the tone ahead of the main amplifier. Both pickups on the Les Paul are limited to around 30-40% with the pots feeding a moderately high gain setting on the preamp - I call this “starving the amplifier”. Gives me the bright clean mids that just barely break up into distortion when I dig deep. The Orange features Overdrive- this alters the waveform a bit to provide a more powerful signal without much distortion. The M80 Fender amp features contour for additional signal control and presence to give a little more eq power at the end of my signal chain. My favorite thing about this old 90’s amp is the spring reverb. The amp is crazy loud on its own; by using the preamp method I take advantage of the headspace to get more control over the tone. Warning: using a headphone jack to preamp into an amp with digital effects can be damaging to your gear. So use caution with this method.
