This Peugeot 404 Superluxe with three-speed automatic transmission was first registered on November 28, 1967 in the north of France. This information comes from the second owner from Altenach, a little southwest of Mulhouse, who bought the car from the first owner on June 28, 1991. In 1994 the car was sold to someone from Lübbecke east of Osnabrück. In 2004 to someone near Bönen in the Dortmund area. On May 26, 2023 the Peugeot was bought by a collector from the Krefeld area. He had cleaned and preserved the entire underbody and the wheel arches. The body panel of the car, which has only driven 170,633 kilometers, is in very good original condition, except for the front left fender and a minor repair to the longitudinal reinforcement panels. Unfortunately, it is not known why the front left fender was replaced once. Unfortunately, probably out of ignorance, the fender of a 404 station wagon was fitted, the wheel arch cutout of which is slightly higher than the fender of a sedan. Even we would not have noticed this if the collector had not told us. At the time this fender was replaced, a few parts of the body were repainted and if you look closely, you can see a slight difference in color. However, this does not change the extremely good condition of the body. Of course, we can also fit the fender of a sedan on request. The great condition is reflected both in the engine compartment and in the fantastically preserved light blue interior. The technology is also in excellent condition. The engine was replaced with an original exchange engine in around 2005. The vehicle was still equipped with drum brakes all around and Hydrovac brake boosters from the factory. Only 69,869 chassis numbers later, disc brakes at the front and a more modern brake booster were introduced. This vehicle was completely converted to this disc brake system in conjunction with the engine replacement. So this is a 404 with super luxury equipment with sunroof, automatic transmission and disc brakes from the last model year when the 404 was still the flagship of the Peugeot brand, because the 504 came a year later and then the cost-cutting measures began on the 404 and the equipment became gradually simpler.
