Presented by Taryn Bloem – thesupermomsclub.com #triflerecipe #royalfamilydesserts #specialdesserts This trifle recipe is the recipe that my gran and great-gran made for the British royal family's visit to South Africa in 1947. It won them many awards actually, and was probably the reason why they were chosen to bake for the royal family. The royal party that visited South Africa consisted of king George, queen Elizabeth (the queen mother), princess Elizabeth (she was 21 years old at the time), and princess Margaret. It's a wonderful story in history. If you'd like to find out more about the royal family's visit to South Africa, go to http://thecasualobserver.co.za/port-o... Their website details the itinerary of the Port Elizabeth visit. It's very informative and a great read if you're interested! A ROYAL TRIFLE RECIPE LINK: https://thesupermomsclub.com/tried-an... This recipe is probably close on 100 years old. Back then, things were a little different. To make a quick version of this recipe, you can use ready-made sponge cake, and ready-made custard, and throw the extra ingredients into it on assembly. The sponge cake uses a lot of eggs, and therefore has quite a strong egg taste. If you don't like sponge like this, I would definitely suggest using swiss roll instead.
