The Cattistock Hunt hounds ended up in a SLURRY PIT today with one hound getting stuck for some time and having to be rescued. Report: Cattistock Hunt 13/2/25 Meet: Hardington Mandeville, Somerset. The Cattistock probably thought they could sneak into Hardington Mandeville unnoticed. Sabs must inform them those days are gone. Mid-morning a Cattistock horse box was observed in the area and a call came into sabs. Quickly a sab was in the area and assisted by another anti-hunt campaigner. Although the hunt kept moving in the Broad River valley and hiding away in New Plantation the police were called and two police cars attended for some time. They will be making contact tomorrow for more information. Towards the end of the day there was almost a tragedy for the hounds. A fox exited New Plantation and took a line to Moultons, a series of farm buildings. Next to the buildings with cattle present is a ground level slurry pit. Sabs believe the pit was not secure as it should have been because hounds did enter this dangerous area. Hounds were struggling in the quagmire of slurry. All hell broke loose with vehicles, Quads and dismounted riders running to the area. Galvanised sheets were found in the buildings and laid on the slurry. Eventually the hound was coaxed out of the area and had to be carried to a waiting hunt vehicle. The incident was entirely the fault of the hunt. Often hunts claim they lay trails. This disastrous incident clearly shows no trails were laid. The Cattistock Hunt should also consider the Health and Safety of its staff and followers at the scene.
