It's a shame about the scooter hire rules in one sense, but understandably they've been tightened up based on a need following accidents... anyway, the car rental process was super straight forward and before we knew it we were off driving in our tiny car. Driving in Rarotonga is kind of funny, it's definitely full blown island mode there. In a lot of places the limit is 30kph, in others it goes up to 50kph but for the most part everyone just cruises at 30ish. The island has the most incredibly relaxed feel to it, you'd expect that when you then get in a car or drive a scooter that it feels a bit more chaotic, or they'd be some traffic — nope! The Cook Islands are just as chill inside your car as they are on your sun lounger down at Muri Beach.
