Kenyans dancing STORYLINE: Dozens of Kenyan Catholics turned out in the dark of night to pray for Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger of Germany, a stalwart defender of church teaching from his Vatican office, who was elected pope on Tuesday in an unusually speedy conclave. Pope Benedict XVI, the name the white-haired Ratzinger chose, is 78 - meaning the cardinals opted for a so-called "transitional" leader after John Paul's dynamic 26-year papacy. Church bells rang out in downtown Nairobi as Kenyans danced and celebrated at the news of Ratzinger's appointment. Many across the Africa continent and in Latin America had expressed hope that the next pope would come from the developing world, and therefore be more focused on its problems.
